Fifty years ago to the day that it was announced Sean Connery would be playing Ian Fleming’s famous superspy, James Bond, another press conference has taken place to reveal the details of the 23rd (offical) 007 film. Sony Pictures, Director Sam Mendes, and producer Barbara Broccoli have confirmed the movie will be titled Skyfall a title which Broccoli says will have “some emotional resonance” once people see the film.
Mendes also noted that Bond films are “for the audience” seeming to indicate this would not be any kind of art house spy film, but rather a proper James Bond movie. The plot will not be tied into the Quantum contunity established by the two previous films. No word yet on the roles that Albert Finney and Javier Bardem will be playing. Mendes also seemed to indicate audiences may or may not recognize names of characters.
Daniel Craig also indicated he would be willing to return as Bond again, with Mendes also enthusiastic about directing another Bond film. A brief summary from the Sony Pictures website is here:
In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
Skyfall starts filming this week and is set for release in November of 2012. No word yet on who is doing the theme song.
